The Vault

Hey, I'm back after a week! No two month hiatus this time!

1. I have pretty much settled in on the fact that the Rangers will not contend this season and that we may lose less than 60 games this season.

2. I have heard a few scenarios about trades involving potential prospects and Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira. I like one that was suggested with the Detroit Tigers where we trade Teixeria for Sean Casey, lefty and John Danks clone Andrew Miller, and outfielders Cameron Maybin or Brent Clevlen. That weould be a dream and of course I am talking about the Rangers and am sure this will not happen.

3. The Rangers need to drop Matt Kata from the roster. He stinks and they need to call Travis Metcalf up and Jason Botts soon.

4. The Rangers need to gut it out with the starting pitchers and just hope Vicente Padilla and Kevin Millwood come down to earth and Kam Loe, Robinson Tejeda, and Brandon MCCarthy go through their growing pains.

5. I still say they need to try to sign Teixeira to long term extension and I still say 6 years $100 million would be the best. I mean, there is no rush and we still own his rights for next year as well so if it cannot be worked out, we can hold off until winter as well.

6. Lots of baseball. Enough with A-Rod already. I mean this is ridiculous. HE should not be cheating on his wife and if it is against the rules should not have yelled "mine" or "hah" to throw off the Blue Jays third baseman. But please, lay off of him and if people know me, I am no A-Rod fan after the way he left the Rangers. But this witchhunt needs to stop. Baseball players cheat on their wives most of the time. I don't condone it and of course they should just stay true to the women they marry but why is no one hunting the players the girls at On the DL are posting about? For some reason, A-Rod just gets the fires turning in people.

7. What was with all the outbursts this past week? I mean Lou Piniella blowing up is one thing because we have seen it before but the minor league manager that went ballistic and did the grenade toss from the pitcher's mound? Ridiculous.

8. Speaking of tantrums, why is it baseball has the biggest tantrums of all sports? I mean we really don't see big time tantrums in other sports. With the exception of Bobby Knight in basketball, I have not recalled many outbursts that get shown the animation that baseball managers do. I mean as animated as Bill Parcells was, could you even imagine him kicking dirt at an official or getting nose to nose with him? Even Mike Ditka's outbursts would be considered mellow compared to baseball's managers.

9. Gary Sheffield says that the reason there are more Latino players in baseball than African Americans is becaused the black athlete does not get pushed around as much as the Hispanice athlete. Well as a Hispanic man, I want to say to you Mr. Sheffield, you are full of crap. Maybe if all the black athletes were not going to other sports like basketball and football, you would have more athletes in baseball. I mean don't go on TV programs such as the 700 club and claim you are a Christian man if you can't at least try to back it up. I know as a Christian you are not perfect but after your appearance on TV, you go on this rant and than get ejected from a game for arguing and getting confrontational with an umpire.

10. Roger Clemens start is delayed because of a fatigued groin. I have heard of pulled and strained but never fatigued.

11. Like Peter Gammons has said, quite contrary to what the media show, there are other teams besides the Yankees and Red Sox in the majors.

12. Well Lebron James saved the NBA Finals from becoming a ratings dud and put a more interesting series for us to watch. The sigh of relief you hear is from the suits at ABC.

13. I have not seen a player play like Lebron James since Jordan. I mean 25 straight points! We may have witnessed history.

14. I was planning on writing a short piece on why Billy Donovan was making a mistake going to the Orlando Magic and leaving the Florida Gators. Now I think his recent waffling and flip-flopping he may have already thought, what would "The Mansion say about me leaving?" All right, all kidding aside it was a huge mistake for him to leave. He has a dynasty, a legacy about to unfold before him at Florida. Why leave it? I dont think Coach K at Duke or Dean Smith at North Carolina tarnished their legacies by staying at one school. I mean can anyone make the case that because they never went to the pros that their standing is less than Phil Jackson, Larry Brown or Pat Riley's? He should have realized this last week instead of falling to the pressure of going to the Magic.

15. Speaking of waffling, what is Kobe Bryant thinking? I mean you knew what it would be like when Shaq left and that it would be difficult to lead a team without good complimetnary players. Besides there is no way with the salary cap that a trade will work out. Yes the LAkers have sucked since Shaq and Phil left the first time and Mitch Kupchak has made a lot of bad deals. But you created your own purgatory Kobe. I don't know whether to believe if Kobe was not behind Shaq's departure but even if he did not force management to change, he did not do anything to stop management from trading Shaq.

16. Danica Patrick got a little feist at the end of that race Sunday. Well I would be frustrated to if I had never won a race. I mean there is so much attention on her and she has not won at her level since the media spotlight shined on her. I mean she is not the only female driver out there.

17. Jacques Taylor of the Dallas Mroning News had been a long time beat writer for the Dallas Cowboys and now he is a regular columnist he needs to expand his horizon a bit about the sports world. There is no question he know his Cowboys inside and out but about other subjects, and he is just, I don't know how to describe it. One is suggesting Dallas trade Dirk Nowitski for Kobe Bryant. Ridiculous. Why are we going to get more scoring when it is obvious that we need mroe defense. Also, Taylor in a recent online chat was asked some baseball questions specifiaclly about the Rangers minor league prospects Taylor admits he does not follow minor league baseball and asked what the Rangers need to do, it is to worry about playing baseball the right way and the wins and losses will come.

18. Tank Johnson gets 8 games and now Michael Vick is sinking more and more. Goodell shoudl really lay the hammer and suspend Vick because Vick is clearly a superstar player and this would really send the message to all the players that the system is not for games. It is serious.

19. For all Goodell's tough stances, has anyone ever really heard him talk much? I mean I remember PAul TAgliabue making himself more available for press conferences than Goodell has.

Time is up and I am out.
