Football pickings

Here are some of my football thoughts I forgot to mention:

1. Tiki Barber has decided to retire at the end of the season to pursue off-field pursuits such as maybe working as a morning show host. It is always the running backs that retire early, (Barry Sanders, Robert Smith, Jim Brown). As a Cowboy fan I am happy he is leaving. Of course as a football fan, he needs to be in the game to add excitement. I am not going to criticize him for retiring. Running backs take a brutal beating in the NFL, more than any other position, and Barber proably does not want to wind up like Earl Cambell. If he wants to leave, let him, it is his decision.

2. I do not know what to say about the Cardinals. You blow a lead without your defense giving up any of the scores. Dennis greens' blowup at the end was expected. I don't know how some of these other coaches and players keep their composure after they lose a game. You would expect them to get worked up and the media are just having a field day with Greens' reaction. They are human guys.

3. Green should not fired his offensive coordinator, Keith Rowen. Rowen is not gthe one who fumbled twice and let the Bears get back in the game. Rowen is not the one who has a bad offensive line that Edgerrin James cannot seem to find holes in. The Cardinals should have used some of the free agency money to get an offensive line.

4. But there is a bright spot for the Cardinals and that is Matt Leinart. He looked good and reminded me of Peyton Manning a bit, as far as how he conducts himself on the field. This is another case for Keith Rowen that LEinart was able to use the schemes designed and penetrate a Bears defense that had been virtually unstoppable. Because of this, the NFL now has a blueprint to beat the Bears, provided they don't turnover the ball. Their looks like hope and lets hope Leinart is the next Manning or Favre and not the next Jim Hart or Neil Lomax or another Manning, Archie.
